Lehigh has 16 different lakes, all stocked with bass, crappie, and catfish—a fisherman’s delight! If you like canoeing or kayaking, then visit Hickey’s Creek Mitigation Park, which has an abundance of gopher tortoises and other wildlife.1 Bring your camera and enjoy the calm waters. Once you’ve relaxed, head on down to the Imaginarium Hands-On Museum, located in Fort Myers. There is also the Southwest Florida Museum of History that always has great displays of artifacts from the past, such as photographs of old. Prior to the 2000’s, there were not many residents. Then an increase in housing prices led to a boom in new construction, which led to more people moving to Lehigh Acres. Unfortunately, the housing boom stalled and the housing prices fell. Lehigh is also not a city, but a census-designated place in Lee County. Regardless, still a great place to visit and/or live for any one!

Hope HealthCare Services is a non profit organization located in Lehigh Acres which provides hospice and support care to the chronic and terminally ill, as well as support group services for those who are ill, their families, and their caretakers.2 One of their most active support group services is their weekly Monday adult grief support group. The Compassionate Care Clinic in Lehigh Acres is dedicated to providing basic medical care of the unemployed, uninsured, and under insured residents of Lehigh Acres.4 Unemployed adults are much less likely to be able to receive care than their employed peers, including screenings and prescriptions. Lehigh Community Services is a Lehigh Acres community organization which is committed to ensuring that Lehigh Acres citizens do not go without basic necessities.5 Their community outreach programs help those in need with shelter, nutritional and utility needs, based on federal guidelines for eligibility. Lehigh Community services can help with emergency food assistance, past due rent or mortgage, and past due water and electricity bills. To apply for assistance, residents should bring proof of income, their rental or lease agreements, utility bills, and identification.
