To facilitate that end, Hesed House offers an array of support programs for families in need. Drop-in centers provide food, clothing and other necessities so families can meet their basic needs. Emergency shelter is available for families who have lost their homes. Employment training is offered so families have the financial means to get back on their feet. An unplanned pregnancy can cause much stress to a relationship, and can be even more stressful for a single woman. Waterleaf Women's Center offers many free and confidential services to fit the individual needs of the pregnant women they work with. Pregnancy testing is available, as are ultrasound exams. School and employment assistance programs help stabilize the financial situation of young women. Support, guidance and expert advice are also provided in order to help reduce the emotional and psychological stressors associated with an unplanned pregnancy. Camp Fire Illinois Prairie conducts in-school and after-school programs that facilitate the growth of positive social-emotional traits in children. In addition to teaching children valuable skills that improve communication, foster positive attitudes, and emphasizes tolerance, Camp Fire programs also help kids build practical skills for daily living. Participants learn about the value of community service, develop leadership skills, and learn how to build relationships with their peers and their family members that are positive and long lasting. Family Services and Assistance Programs
Family focus is dedicated to providing support services to all adult family members in order to enhance the stability and wellbeing of families. Through job assistance programs, parents develop the skills they need to be self-sufficient and provide for their children. The agency also offers parenting support groups for fathers who have been absent due to incarceration. Parenting resources, information about health and safety, and general guidance are additionally provided to grandparents who have stepped in to raise their grandchildren.
