Many St. Louis families are torn apart by the effects of depression, schizophrenia, personality disorders, and substance abuse. To help foster the psychosocial development of St. Louis children and youth, the YMCA offers a number of outreach programs. These programs focus on assisting youth in developing intellectual skills that advance their education, social skills that help them have positive interactions with others, and life skills that cultivate good morals and values that drive positive decision-making. Conflict resolution skills are acquired in the Climbing Above Conflict program. The Youth in Government Program teaches children about the democratic process and encourages their participation in it.
