I don't do formal career counseling, but enjoy counseling entrepreneurs, business men and women, and performing artists. We would help you develop better assertiveness skills, clarify direction, improve motivation, encourage and guide you in negotiating higher salaries and rates, and cope with job/career crisis and change. I have worked with many people who lost their jobs in the current economic downturn. I also have a specialty working with performing artists to help them find satisfying jobs that allow them to pursue their art, and work with them on stage fright, creative blocks, and balancing relationship/work.

Clients plagued by perfectionism, or self-esteem related difficulties can develop insight, increase self-esteem, learn communication skills, and heal from past painful life experiences to learn more about themselves and what career they may see themselves in. Individuals can learn emotion regulation and interpersonal skills to assist in building confidence.

My philosophy of therapy and change is that change comes from within. As a therapist, I ask a great deal in asking an individual to change, as change is an incredibly difficult task for everyone. The journey of change requires both the client and myself to work collaboratively throughout this journey. It is for this reason that the rapport between the client and myself is critical. I aim to provide all my clients with the space to explore their underlying feelings, thoughts, and behaviors so that they can engage in change.

While most career counselors love to give you capacity based profiles of what your talents and interests are for your best bet career choices, Grey Matters international believes that most people make predictably irrational decisions and then after making them learn way to make them fit into their identities using various types of rationalizations and strategies. We are able to assist folks in career counseling type settings by giving a deeper look at their decision making profile so they can better understand where the core frustration or desire is coming from in the world of work. I see careers as extensions of who we are as people. I love helping clients evaluate their interests, skills, and abilities, and then walking through the development of realistic goals. Earning a living is a major part of our lives; ideally it should be fulfilling as well as providing for material needs. If you are unhappy in your work life, there are many approaches and choices that can radically improve it. Sometimes it is a matter of altering attitude and motivation so that you exude energy not resignation. Transitioning to a new position of responsibility can call for flexibility in modifying work habits, and handling interpersonal relationships. Engineering a career change is more possible than most of us realize, but there are intimidating challenges. Recognizing when one is in a dead end is occasionally necessary; especially if you've invested years of effort.

When i work with adolescents I offer career counseling to aid in their areas of study. There are various inventories that i can administer which indicate occupations most suited for your child's personality and aptitudes. Some show which professions attract people most like your child. Some show areas of competence in your child that will be valued in certain professions.

Work can be something fun, something to look forward to, or it can be a burden to deal with. Through work, an individual can experience a sense of work engagement (vigor, dedication, and absorption). Additionally, individuals can experience burnout, which can cause them to hate their job. Individuals spend most of their waking hours working; it is important to find meaning and satisfaction in one's work. I have spent numerous years helping individuals with their careers, not only decide on choosing a career path that is meaningful to them but also to help them find meaning and satisfaction in their existing jobs.

When transitioning out from the education system, people often face a variety of foreign obstacles. Throughout our work together we will spend time focusing on personal and professional goals while also taking into consideration the emotional impact big changes puts onto a person. We will learn to find balance between pushing forward towards the good, and honoring the emotions associated with a loss of innocence/support/structure/etc.

It's really important to do what you love. My clients will be able to gain clarity about the work they want to do. I will assess client's strenghts and provide valuable feedback. Clients will find more joy in the work they do or realize that they possibly need to change positions depending on their situation. Often times, teens have a hard time know what they want to major in college or if they need college. Together, we will explore what aligns to the client's goals and values.
