All people have problems. When the problems are not the consequence of their own doing, such as resulting from abuse, neglect, or tragedy, I work to help these individuals muster their personal resources to better cope and learn recover from the trauma. However, most of the problems that people tend to have are the result of the poor choices they make. This is the frequent consequence of not really knowing who they are. My work as a psychotherapist is to help my clients become more aware of themselves. Lots of times it means facing some irrational and negative beliefs that get played out over and over. I work in a collaborative way that helps increase my clients knowledge of themselves.

When I work with clients in psychotherapy my focus is on careful listening to their emotional experience and responses. I am especially attuned to listening and learning about the quality of their closest connections. Oftentimes when an individual, couple or family is in pain it is nearly always an indication that their most important relationships are suffering in some way. My listening and responses are focused on the clients experiences with those that matter most to them and to help them find ways to express what they truly need and want from those that they are most emotionally dependent upon. I help them connect with that vulnerable place within them.

I recognize that no two people are alike and there is no one size fits all for treatment. I work collaboratively with clients to identify the specific needs and challenges that they would like to address. Together, we then determine which interventions will likely be most helpful for achieving one’s goals. I have extensive experience helping clients with a variety of challenges, including managing acute and chronic stressors, overcoming mood and anxiety symptoms, managing relational stress, gaining control of self-defeating habits and behaviors, and coping with sudden and expected losses.

Through psychotherapy, I can provide feedback, observations, information, or a new perspective about what’s happening. I may point out connections between your thoughts and feelings or between current responses and past relationships. You may also come to see things differently as you explain things to me. Together, we can develop new ways for you to understand, cope with, and communicate about your experiences and to improve your relationships.
