There is a world of difference between psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. Psychoanalysis requires many hours spent "on the couch" going over and over your past, your childhood, etc. Psychotherapy is different. The only time we go back and look at the past is if there's reason to believe it's interfering with your ability to function at work, home, or in relationships the way you would like to.
