Stress. Everyone has it, and everyone has to deal with it, but just because it's common doesn't mean that it isn't a big deal. Whether it's stress from work, stress from parenting, or stress from relationships, there are things we can do to help decrease the effects of stress. Anxiety and stress are often felt in our bodies, which is why I take a body-based approach to them. Of course, we work on some deep breathing, but we also look at other ways of convincing your brain that you are safe. Modalities like yoga, brainspotting, and polyvagal (or somatic) work can all help decrease that felt response of anxiety.

Anxiety can take away your personal power at the most important moments and start to have too much control over your behavior. Over time, chronic stress can break down a healthy view of yourself. Starting from our first session, I will support your understanding of anxiety, its biological effects, and its impact on your relationships. I will support you to build on developing insight and develop habits that support anxiety and stress reduction. At the end of therapy, you will have a clear plan for sustained control over anxiety and chronic stress. The experience of anxiety and stress can be caused by multiple factors, such as mind, body, emotions, personality tendencies, relationships, and so on. For that reason, I offer a wide variety of resources to help you change how you are responding to anxiety and stress with very practical coping skills, as well as exploration into relational or other reasons for the anxious response. We feel and store emotion in the body, and anxiety is there to alert us that something needs changed. We all have some measure of anxiety and stress at times, it is just finding out what is causing it for you, and what you need to manage and minimize it.
