People tend to think of addiction as a problem with alcohol or drugs, however we can be addicted to work, sex, food, gambling, pornography or even internet use. If you have experienced personal, family, or legal consequences as a result of addiction issues, we can help individuals and families learn better ways of coping with life on life’s terms. We work with with codependency, chronic relapse, and co-occurring mental health disorders that are frequently part of the addiction cycle. If you believe that there are others who have been where you are right now and are not there any longer, you may be ready to make meaningful changes. The work can be hard but you do not have to do it alone!

Addiction involves compulsive behavior that can gradually lead you to feel out of control with your life. Addiction comes in many forms and can include addiction to substances, people (love addiction), food, or work. Our approach is to help you manage unhelpful compulsive behaviors while also working on underlying causes. Often, this involves identifying and dealing with low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, or feelings of emptiness and inadequacy. The process of recovery helps you take control of your life, regain an identity of worth and value, develop healthy coping strategies, and manage difficult emotions.

I do not provide Addictions Counseling in my practice, but I do often see clients who have substance abuse issues. Anyone with a history of substance abuse themselves, or among family & friends, knows all too well the devastating & pervasive negative impacts that addiction can have on one's entire universe. The impacted areas typically/can often include failing interpersonal relationships, economic hardships, loss of work, health concerns, criminal behavior, depression, & suicidality, to name a few. I focus on all of these areas, & more, when treating individuals suffering from addiction-related issues. I also treat addictive problem behaviors that MAY not include ANY substance use.

Addiction is something that touches every person in some way, whether it is you, a family member, or a friend. We view addiction in our society as some sort of mental weakness. Addiction is disease just like diabetes or heart disease and that is how I treat it. A lot of the time with addiction, comes some sort of other baggage. We will spend time unpacking that baggage and begin learning new, healthy ways to go about your new way of living. It is possible, but it isn't pretty all the time.
