I was raised in a Christian household myself so I have an appreciation for the values instilled by religion, the importance of tradition, and the strength of community. My approach to counseling is humanistic and welcoming of all spiritualities. Though I do not incorporate any specific pastoral counsel, I encourage my spiritual clients to draw on their beliefs during the counseling process.

My name is Heather and I am a Christian that counsels. This makes me different from other Christian counselors. As an experienced Christian Counselor and ordained pastor, over the last 15 years I’ve been blessed to help hundreds of men find hope and healing using both psychological and Biblical principles. I believe that Christ is the ultimate source of hope and healing in this life. But I also believe that he’s given us the gift of rational minds, able to discern scientific and psychological truths built into the fabric of His amazing creation. My approach is grounded firmly in Scripture, but I don’t use Scripture as a weapon. You don’t need more guilt, but rather, a reminder of God’s promises and a compassionate guide to support you.

Our deepest wounds are often those that are at the hands of another person. Human brokenness is the root of our need for redemption. This holds true in therapy and growth work as well. When we encounter our deep wounds, we encounter our need for our Big God. Here, we are able to reconcile the broken our hurt parts of our ourselves. Dr. Vanes been a pastor's wife for 15 years and is trained in integrated counseling with Masters degrees in Theology, Clinical Psychology, and Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary, and a Master's in Clinical Psychology: Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific Universality. Jace Draper is an LMFT with an MA from Azusa Pacific.

I follow the promptings of Holy Spirit in which direction I take with each client for each session. I help people connect with Jesus in a vibrant, authentic way that will prove life changing. I believe Jesus is our healer and that he can, wants to and will come close to the broken hearted. I provide tools to help each client become closer to Christ their healer. I believe the Bible is the infallible word of God, and that it is the standard rule of faith and conduct. I believe there is one God, in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I also believe that Jesus is the Son of God, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died for our sins and was raised as atonement for our sins.

I work with many clients who have had traumatic experiences with religion or church, who may have even been hesitant to contact me because I am a believer. My feedback from these clients has been overwhelmingly positive. Spiritual trauma is all too prevalent. I also work with those who prefer me because of my Christian faith. No matter your background, whether a religious person or otherwise, I meet clients on their terms as they work to explore what they believe, not what I believe.

Faith based counseling is the most effective approach for people who believe in the truth of the Holy Bible and personally experiencing God in a person's life. It is amazing how powerful it is to realize we do not have to do this life alone and that there really is a loving God who wants to love us and walk with us so that we can fulfill the dreams that He has placed in our hearts during this journey of life on planet earth. Life can go from a hopeless mess to an adventure of hope and healing that is energizing to ourselves and those around us!
