Youth who struggle with academics can face a lot of pressure from themselves, their parents, their teachers, and their peers. These struggles can often lead to feelings of inadequacy, which in turn can cause kids to become self-conscious and withdrawn. To help students alleviate these feelings, the United Way of Walker County offers educational programs that focus on academic skills, such as improving reading abilities, successfully transitioning from elementary to middle school, and graduating from high school on time. For more detailed information about these programs, call 936-291-0431.2 The Huntsville Family YMCA early childhood development program offers enrichment services for young children. Academic exercises facilitate cognitive growth and team-related activities help young children develop social skills. Additionally, the YMCA works with each child's family to address any emotional difficulties they may face. Call the YMCA at 713-659-5566 to find out more.3
