I would be honored to help you overcome your depression by helping you to figure out and face the issues that are keeping you down. I will ask you leading questions to help you become more aware of yourself and any unhelpful coping strategies you may have learned. Then we will work on changing the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are holding you back. You will learn new strategies to overcome any obstacles you may face now and in the future.

There are several factors that contribute to childhood and teen depression such as problems in school, grief and loss, illness, bullying and problems with parents. In order to address the child’s needs, I will meet with your family in order to assess and understand the nature of the depression. As adolescents share their feelings about what they are experiencing in their lives, I will work with your child to reduce the symptoms of depression and strive to improve, self-esteem, social skills and help them to develop emotional problem solving skills.

We all experience times when we feel sad or depressed. When we feel this way it can be an important clue that something in our life needs to be changed. Some people have a biological condition which can cause depression. People may experience intense sadness. Others have a Bipolar Disorder and may feel high or even experience difficulty sleeping, anxiety and racing thoughts. We help you explore what was going on in your life when your depression started and unravel the reasons for your symptoms. In some cases medication may be needed. If necessary, we will collaborate with you and your doctor to help you to stabilize your mood, increase your confidence and work towards a happier future.

When depression hits, you may feel a lack of energy, enthusiasm, or joy for life. Your body may hurt. Research indicates that counseling is an important part of treating depression. I offer compassionate, respectful care to assist you in breaking free of what is holding you back. We will explore together what can be most helpful to managing and hopefully overcoming this challenge in your life. One of the insidious parts of depression is that while you’re in the fog, it’s hard to be objective. I will help you walk through this fog until we get to the other side.

Depression comes in so many forms and it ranges on intensity. In my opinion, depression is usually a result of me not doing the things that I want for myself. We will work together to identify your true values, and figure out how to live a life based on those values. Building ourselves up and setting ourselves up for success, usually leads to a more fulfilling life.

Sadness is guided by biology and history. They perform a dramatic and often destructive dance which yields depression. Understanding that your mood is traceable and, with proper therapy - healable, sets the tone for our journey together. There is hope, connection, clarity and growth here. While I sometimes refer out for med therapy, I also believe that highly relational therapy is critically important to a sound, workable check-in that yields results. In my practice, I specialize in treating Depression specifically, & mood disorders generally. Peer-reviewed empirical clinical research; including research I have personally conducted, co-authored, & published; suggests that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the preferred treatment - & the treatment modality that I also employ - for depression & depression-related symptoms. Over the course of treatment, CBT provides clients with symptom relief, a path to wellness, & positive outcomes by reducing current depressive symptoms. CBT also provides an additional, & therapeutically unique, benefit in that the tools & methods learned through CBT can be used to manage future issues that may arise.
