We will work together to identify the underlying causes of your anger, and develop coping strategies and communication techniques that will allow you to have your emotional needs met.

Anger and it's triggers are plentiful. Tempering and controlling strong emotion such as this can be extremely difficult, especially if you add in life's frustration, sadness, and other emotions. My approach is to help the patient to release some of these emotions while processing where they might be coming from. Once this insight is gained certain techniques can be taught and used to deal with them on a daily basis as a daily practice.

Anger management is a common type of therapy that I see benefitting many people from various backgrounds. Because anger is a very misunderstood emotion, I work with my clients to learn how to distinguish between healthy and unhealthy anger. Once this difference is understood, we will develop an understanding of the root causes of unhealthy anger and learn to address these causes in new ways. While some believe that anger is never valid, I believe that clients with anger issues need to address whether responses of anger are the "best" response to the situation. Through counseling, it is these kinds of insights that help people become aware of exactly what they are feeling and learn, most of the time, better ways of dealing with those emotions. That being said, anger that is the result of addictions to drugs or alcohol need to be, first of all, dealt with in an addictions setting. Without addressing the addiction first, progress may be held back or altogether halted.
