Kevin Fleming, Ph.D.

Coach/Change Agent/Consultant

Jacksonville, Florida 32201

Grey Matters International, Inc. and the work of Kevin J. Fleming, Ph.D. handles depression and other emotional disorders in a very unique way. Most of therapy or counseling processes utilize validation, unconditional positive regard, and reframing as common techniques to get someone to heal from their depression. Though this can be helpful, it rarely fixes the core problem behind it and for tough cases we then refer them usually to a psychiatrist for medication which can have tons of side effects. Instead, why not try a natural and arguably more effective way to not just change your mind, but change the brain--where the depression is rooted. Contact us at kevin@kevinflemingphd.com

William Brennan, L.M.H.C., C.A.P.

Psychotherapist

570 Memorial Circle Suite 150, Ormond Beach, Florida 32174

If you feel depressed, you may be frustrated because you don’t know why. On the other hand, you may know why you feel depressed but the symptoms don’t subside. Many times we are still affected in the present by painful events of our past. We can’t change our past. However, we can change how the past is affecting us today. With every hurtful event comes emotional pain and a negative belief about you. In psychotherapy with me, that event can be processed in a way that removes the pain and replaces the negative belief with a positive belief of your choosing. This process can reduce and eliminate the symptoms of depression. Go to emdr.com for more information and research on this process.

Much of my practice focuses on persons suffering from depression. Clients include college age students, young and middle-aged adults as well as the elderly. I engage a number of beneficial therapy modalities including: crisis intervention, psychoeducation, cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic narrative, guided imagery and critical stress debriefing. Due to the high prevalance of cooccurence specifically anxiety, sleep disturbance and depression, integrative therapy modalities are employed. Every session utilizes Carl Rogers' famous client centered model and places priority on establishing a warm, safe, empathic environment conducive to achieving favorable outcomes and restoration.

Richard Nay, Ph.D.

Licensed Psychologist

12627 San Jose Blvd Ste 803, Jacksonville, Florida 32223

As a psychologist, depression may be the most common complaint or difficulty that my clients experience. Put simply, depression can be a result of genetic/constitutional tendencies, environmental issues such as life stressors, or both. I often employ what is known as the cognitive-behavioral approach in dealing with depression, in other words looking at the relationship between negative, self-defeating thoughts, and the resulting emotion, e.g., "Stinkin' Thinkin'." I also place a large emphasis on important daily mood issues, such as sleep, diet, activity level, and receiving adequate light levels. An attitude of gratefulness is important in reducing feelings of depression.

Kerri Ifill, LMHC

Licensed Mental Health Counselor

2255 Glades Road, Suite 324A, Boca Raton, Florida 33431

I specialize in working with clients struggling with depression. Depression is often a signal to the mind and the body that there is something important happening in the client's life that is not being addressed. It is my goal to help each client to better understand the reasons for their depression, which is often rooted in the suppression of other difficult emotions. As we begin to explore some of these deeper issues, I provide my clients with coping skills related to mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. That way, a client becomes skilled to deal with the issues they previously feared, in a more healthy and effective way.

Jenifer Garrido, MSW, LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker/Psychotherapist

719 Peachtree Road, Ste 200, Orlando, Florida 32804

As a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist for over 17 years ,my goal is to teach clients how our negative self talk, that little voice that always reminds us of our faults, shortcomings and mistakes, is the basis for low self esteem and depression. Essentially, what we "think" is what we "feel". By learning to identify these irrational and destructive thoughts and utilize effective strategies to challenge and reframe our self talk and behavior, we can reshape our self concept and begin to live the life that we deserve and desire

Depression can be highly incapacitating. It may not only affect every day functioning (increased work absenteeism, lack of energy, decreased pleasure, and reduced productivity, etc.), but also a person’s physical health (higher propensity for illness and worse prognosis for such chronic illnesses as asthma, arthritis, diabetes, cancer and heart disease). We approach the treatment of depression practicing an eclectic approach that includes: the exploration and Socratic questioning of negative views of self, and the world and the future, the revaluation and modification of these views, the exploration of deeply rooted feelings of abandonment and loss that can be fueling the depressive outlook, and....
