A bit more about Jo-Anne:
"I came to psychology a bit later than most-- I was 30, a single mom with three children when I started my education, first at the College of New Caledonia in Prince George, then at UVic. My children and I were in school at the same time, and at dinner we would talk about what we'd learned in school that day. They know a lot about psychology! I finished my masters degree in 1998, and was immediately offered part time teaching at UVic. For the next 18 years, I taught a variety of courses in psychology, counselling, child and youth care, and conflict resolution. I also built a private practice and enjoyed many years working with clients in Victoria. I finished my Ph.D. in 2004.

In 2011, my children had all moved away from Vancouver Island and I decided it was time for a change. My daughter and her husband had settled in the beautiful Slocan Valley, and after several visits, I followed and settled in Castlegar. I was fortunate to land a position in the counselling department at Selkirk College, where I enjoy working with students. The combination of college work and private practice is a lovely balance in my life.

Outside of work, I enjoy singing with the Twin Rivers Community choir, working in my garden, and travelling. Life is full and wonderful!"
