Meet Scott Johannson
Most people don't reach out because of one bad day. They reach out because the noise inside has been building for a long time — the anxiety that won't switch off, the anger that surprises even them, the quiet distance that has crept into a marriage. If any of that sounds familiar, you are in the right place, and you are not as far from calm as you feel right now.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I work with adults, men, and couples who are carrying more than they let on — capable and composed on the outside, quietly worn out underneath. My practice, Inner Life Strategies, exists for exactly that person.
About My Approach
I work primarily from an Internal Family Systems (IFS) lens, paired with solution-focused therapy. In plain terms: the parts of you that feel anxious, angry, or shut down are not problems to be silenced — they are carrying something, and they make sense once we understand them. We slow down enough to listen, and then we get practical about what actually changes this week, not just someday. With couples, I draw on emotionally-focused and Gottman-informed frameworks to help partners get underneath the argument to what is really being protected.
My Experience
I have spent my working life around people under pressure — as a business owner and leader long before I sat in the therapist's chair — and the last several years in clinical practice helping people turn that pressure into something they can actually work with. I am also the author of the From Chaos to Calm series, written for the same people I meet in session: those who want less noise and more steadiness in their relationships, their work, and their own heads.
A Typical Session With Me
Sessions are warm, direct, and unhurried. I will not hand you a worksheet and a label. We talk honestly, find the pattern underneath the symptom, and leave you with one thing that is genuinely yours to try. Many clients tell me it is the first time therapy felt like a real conversation rather than a report.
The Benefits of Working Together
Clients come to me wanting to feel less anxious, to argue less and connect more, to manage anger without it managing them, and to move through burnout without abandoning the life they have built. That is the work — moving, honestly, from chaos to calm.
I see clients in person on Portage Avenue in Winnipeg and online across Manitoba. If you are ready to begin, I would be glad to hear from you.
