Trained in psychology (Ph.D. from Cornell University, 1979; Internship Worcester State Hospital), Dr. David Ransen has mastered numerous areas of psychology and human development during his 43-year career. He earned his second degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Nova Southeastern University, the only fully-accredited program in all of Florida. Dr. Ransen earned his psychology Bachelors degree with high honors from Clark University, the nation’s first graduate school, and the first to award a doctor’s degree in psychology. He is Board Certified in Clinical Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy in Florida and elsewhere.
Teaching has always been one of his passions, and he has taught psychology at five universities, including Tulane University, Harvard Medical School, Princeton University, and Cornell University. He has published numerous articles in some of the world's most prestigious professional journals, as well as informal pieces in popular publications including the New York Times and ScientificAmerican. He is an active member in good standing of the International Hypnosis Research Institute, the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, and a member for many years of the American Psychological Association. Dr. Ransen was trained in individual and relationship counseling by master therapists known and respected worldwide.
Dr. Ransen sees a large number of couples, married or unmarried. LGBT always welcome and understood. He treats individuals as well, but only if they are not married and not in committed relationships.
Since having earned Florida board certification in Clinical Hypnotherapy, this type of therapy has grown in importance in Dr. Ransen's practice. He has see marvelous and very rapid outcomes in a wide range of areas, ranging from smoking cessation, loss of fears, phobias or sexual difficulties, to permanent weight loss and eating disorders, to chronic physical conditions including tinnitus, IBS, sleep problems, fibromyalgia, back pain, headaches, panic attacks, and many more conditions that may have been intractable and unresponsive to conventional medical interventions.
His patients' success rates are very far higher than average for hypnotherapy. For example, he recently followed almost 300 people whom he had treated for smoking cessation with just one session. A full year after treatment, 94% reported that they had neither smoked nor even desired to smoke during the year. This about 20 times the success rates of those who stop by themselves, and 15 times the success rate of those who use drugs, gums, or patches. It's nearly twice the success rate of those who received hypnotherapy elsewhere, on average.
