Transformative Growth Counseling

"Hope is the only thing stronger than fear." -S. Collins

If you're here, you still have hope - that's the only thing greater than fear. I'm glad you've decided to reach out for help; from here, it can begin to get better. Counseling can reduce your symptoms of distress, improve relationships, and help you feel more in control of your situation and feelings. At Transformative Growth Counseling, we specialize in relationships - including the one we have with ourselves.

However, “relationships” often include so much more than our romantic partners … it also encompasses all the other relationships we have  – with ourselves, parents, siblings, children, extended family, your boss or employees, friends and of course, your romantic partner. Even how we relate to and use substances or objects is a form of relationship; such as addiction.  Humans are biologically programmed for desiring rewarding relationships and attachment to other people; relationships are what we humans do. Failing that, we may turn to unhealthy attachments – tolerating abuse and neglect from others, or alternatively, turning to substances to numb one’s self.   Through evidence based, emotionally and behaviorally focused counseling for individuals, couples, and children, we will help you discover the dynamics and struggles within a troubled relationship – be it a relationship with your lover, yourself, or a family member, so that it may be rebuild, revitalized and restored to a state of healthiness.

Couples:

Therapists at Transformative Growth Counseling employ emotionally focused therapy (EFT) to help couples reconnect, reignite passion and improve attachment issues by addressing love-related injuries such as infidelity, abandonment, sexual functioning/frequency, anger, lying, and divorce prevention.  Studies on this type of therapy shows that when couples come to therapy, are engaged in the process of  change, and utilize new ways of connecting with their partners, they have a 90% success rate of repairing and improving their relationship.

Through therapeutic work & healing, couples learn how to:

  • Address and overcome issues of infidelity, dishonesty, betrayal and abandonment.
  • Identify harmful patterns of interaction.
  • Repair broken bonds.
  • Regain trust.
  • Find the positive in each other, and in life.
  • Identify needs and meet the needs of each other.
  • Maintain these positive changes that lead to life-long love.

……and finally, getting the spark back in their sex lives.

For those in Non-monogomaous, poly, kink, or LGBTQIA relationships, TGC takes a sex positive, flexible approach to working with these unique relationship issues. Sexual minority couples have different dynamics and internal workings than the traditional, monogamous Male-Female couple. Too often, these couples find themselves getting treatment that is not culturally sensitive to their needs. Our clinicians operate with the internal belief and guiding principles of queer theory, that these differences deserve just as much respect, recognition and support as any other relationship – not shame or forced conformity.

Children & Teens:

With children ages 3 & up, we work together to focus on the child's underlying emotions, tap into their mental processes, teach coping skills, and distress tolerance - all through the use of play therapy. Play IS a child's most important work; it is through play that richest data on where your child's strengths and struggles lay.

Teenagers will work toward personal insight to uncover their role and responsibilities  within the family, their peer relationships, at school, and society at large. Teenagers, just like the rest of us, also need help from time to time in addressing anger, lying, issues of morality, disobedience and mental wellness, too!

We understand that starting counseling can be intimidating!

If you’re new to counseling, you may not be sure what to expect or even what to say or where to start.  That’s ok. Just by being here, you've already taken the biggest step to improving your well-being, and are on a voyage to transform your life or relationship. You can expect active listening, empathy, and honest feedback in a setting that feels most comfortable to you and not the stereotypical canned or cold-feeling response from your therapist.

Authentic, client-centered counseling and positive dynamic with your therapist is essential to the healing process.

We know from almost 100 years of research on the practice of therapy, that the dynamic and connection between therapist and client is one of the single biggest factors in what makes counseling work! Your therapist will create a safe environment in which create this dynamic, to explore your stressors, emotions and goals as a couple, family or as an individual. It's a place where people can openly can discuss their hurts, joys and needs, without the fear of going at it alone. Through this encouraging dynamic, counseling helps you become unstuck in the habits and systems that keep you in a rut.

 We are person-centered:

Providing client-centered counseling sessions create authentic client-therapist dynamic that plays crucial role in healing and recovery. Partnered with evidence based attachment brain science, you'll get your body, mind and spirit reconnected within you and within your relationships. Therapy is always tailored the approach and plan to your individual, couple, child's or your family's needs.
