ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS. I want to offer my admiration to you for looking for another option in managing all that is going on in your life right now. I suspect that this was not an easy decision but it is a decision that speaks about your commitment to yourself and possibly those who are important to you.
I would like to offer you a confidential and supportive environment where you can speak about your struggles without fear of the judgments by family, friends or others who you interact with daily. Together, we can explore new ways of coping, or refresh some skills that have been put aside in the past.
My therapeutic style is to focus on your needs and circumstances. I can offer you a melding of different treatments to specifically focus on where you want to travel in your therapeutic journey. I am trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Techniques (SFT) and Mindfulness Based Stress reduction.
I look forward to meeting you and supporting you in your own personal journey.
Why Oak Roots?
Oak Roots Therapy represents my perception of mental wellness. The Oak tree is vulnerable as an acorn but it has the capacity for resilience and growth and grows into a majestic Oak, with a foundation of stable roots. Much like life, this combination of vulnerability and resiliency can provide the necessities to withstand our personal weather storms.
“Have no fear," the voice told her, "for in thee lies the hope of all. Only thou can deliver the land from darkness."
"How can I?" she asked. "I am just one against so many."
The eyes gleamed behind the dappling leaves. "Yet the smallest acorn may become the tallest oak," came the answer.”

I grew up in the Peterborough area and I raise my family here. I truly believe there is no other location as beautiful and friendly as the Kawarthas! Our main family hobby is spoiling our two standard poodles. One of these poodles may show up at times at my office as my companion animal for the day, so please let me know if this is not suitable to you due to allergies etc. I have worked in both the mental health and education career field’s, and I am a former teacher. After years of teaching I returned to the mental health field. I have learned my passion and skills are best served working individually with others or in small groups. I have also worked as a realtor when my children were small to allow for parental flexibility. Most recently I provided psychotherapy to students at Trent University as well as Lakefield College School. Many years ago, I provided addictions counselling in the local community. I have completed a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Trent University, a Bachelor of Arts in Education at Brock University, a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University, and also a diploma in Drug and Alcohol Counselling at Sir Sandford Fleming College. I am a Registered Psychotherapist in the province of Ontario through CRPO (Registration # 007591).
