Melissa is a licensed mental health counselor with over 20 years experience in the human services field. After receiving her Master of the Arts degree in professional counseling she facilitated several groups some of which included: parenting apart (the Massachusetts parenting class for divorcing parents), divorce supports groups, grief and loss groups and a peer support group for her fellow clinicians. Melissa has worked extensively with traumatized children within the foster care system and Department of Family and Children (DCF).

Currently, Melissa provides individual therapy to adults as well as children from ages 3-11. She uses an individualized approach to counseling based on her experience and education. Melissa believes that therapy requires your commitment and active involvement to reach the goals you hope to achieve. She will utilize various counseling techniques and tools based on your individual needs. Working with you, she will help you to recognize your strengths, learn new positive coping skills and problem solving skills to build resiliency. Melissa may ask you to practice new behaviors and approaches both in and out of sessions.

Melissa’s areas of specialty include: depression, stress, anxiety, grief and loss, life stages and transitions. Melissa also specializes in play therapy for children who may be experiencing loss, trauma, anxiety and/or frustration.

Do you have a desire to change your situation or circumstances? Are you looking for a fresh perspective to a current life issue? Do you want to renew your sense of hope? If so, Melissa can help you identify and build upon your own strengths and your own interests. She will guide you through the process of self empowerment; opening the path to that inner peace that comes from positive change.

How we think often directs how we act and feel about ourselves and others in the world around us. Melissa can help you to learn new skills through positive psychology. Identifying your strengths, increased self-esteem, positive self talk and building resiliency are just some of the ways that positive psychology can help you. The focus of positive psychology emphasizes positive experiences, positive events and your own positive traits. Topics of discussion usually include life satisfaction, wellbeing, gratitude, compassion and hope.

If you would like to find new ways to improve your self-esteem, have more satisfying relationships and a more positive outlook on yourself and life, give Melissa a call to explore some realistic solutions that are based on your wants and needs.
