What I Do

My work focuses on recovery from emotional trauma which often manifests as anxiety, depression, addictions, isolation, self-sabotaging behaviours, decreased creativity, the inability to grieve and let go, and ultimately living a life which seems to be lacking in fulfillment, genuine loving relationships, or unrealized dreams.

My approach is about making space to come home to oneself. I create a safe, compassionate, and empathetic place to “Be.” In a cocoon of safety and with an authentic therapeutic relationship I will skillfully explore your natural and innate seeds of resilience, and your strivings for transformation. What will emerge is new ways of seeing, feeling, and being with yourself and others.

How I Work

I create the environment in which transformation and healing can emerge. I listen attentively to you with my whole self as I facilitate the processing of emotions in a space of utmost safety. Baby step by baby step I check to ensure you feel safe, that you feel we are working in conjunction with each other, and that you are not alone.

As human beings, if we have not had the opportunity to fully express or experience emotions in our body in safety and acceptance, we may have never experienced the positive impact and wisdom they may have on our ability to make decisions or the way we view ourselves, others, and the world. Instead, if we have had to retract or deny our emotions, over time, we may begin to fear our emotions which leads to further denial, a disconnection within ourselves, our relationships with others, and can result in a host of emotional, physical, and somatic manifestations.

I work with emotions in a body focused way. I monitor and explore body based experiences and the emotions which emerge. We work through this together, experientially. We bring clarity to that which may have been muddled. In safety with our togetherness, your own sense of what is good and true and right for your self can emerge. With new clarity and strength your emotions can help free you to make new decisions in the present and can release you from the pull of past painful events.

About Me

I am a Certified Canadian Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (10000691).
I have completed degrees at Simon Fraser University (Bachelor of General Studies with distinction and a minor in Curriculum and Development) and The University of Calgary (Master of Counselling). I spent 5 years studying, practicing, and eventually teaching meditation in the style of my teacher who remains in the Tri-Cities. I have maintained my practice for 10 years.

My approach is guided by my academic training and professional training in these therapeutic approaches:

Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy
Therapeutic Movement
Mindfulness
Pet Therapy
Highly Sensitive Persons as researched by Elaine Aron

I draw on my own experiences of being a Highly Sensitive Person, my professional experiences teaching and supporting vulnerable people, my life experiences, my formal education, and my meditative practices and I bring this together to work and walk along side my clients. If appropriate, I offer insights based on research on Attachment Theory, Emotion Theory, Neuroscience, Transformation, and Healing Trauma.
