So much of what we struggle with in life comes down to relationships - friendships, intimate partners, kids, parents, colleagues. How other people perceive us, how our behaviours impact them and how their reactions impact us, test our resilience. During my career to date, I've noticed that most of my clients require assistance beyond their own struggles to include these crucial relationships. To meet this need, I undertook training in the Gottman Method of couples counseling - a positive approach to working with the strengths and challenges in partnerships. This added skill base has helped inform my understanding of relationships and communication. As a military spouse, and someone in a blended family, I understand the varied and complicated relationships that are part of so many people's reality.

This is a second career for me. I had a 15 year career for the Department of National Defence as an intelligence analyst, and have the knowledge and lived experience to assist military members, veterans and first responders with issues related to operational stress and their specific workplace and family culture. My analytical skills from my first career, combined with my desire to assist others in living their best lives, have created what I believe is a strong balance of skill and compassion.

I specialize in healing from abuse and trauma, in all its forms. Most of the time, I have found that if my clients are dealing with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, anger, and a variety of other emotional response, there is a history of mild or severe trauma from which they have not recovered. So much of what we experience as adults has its origins in how we learned to respond and how our personalities developed throughout our formative years. Together we can explore the origins and present realities of your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. My practice is called "Help in Healing", because I work from the premise that the healing journey is a partnership between therapist and client in which I provide assistance, based on study and training, to guide my clients toward a more positive and fulfilling future. Building rapport with a therapist and developing trust is vital to making progress. I'm available for a free consultation, so we can learn more about each other, you can ask questions, and determine if we're a good fit. It is a low-risk proposition and may be the first step toward a happier you.
