Sean Lewis, MACP, MDiv, DPC, CCC | Introspectus Counselling

Most people don't come to counselling because life is going well. You're here because something is heavy, stuck, or quietly wrong. The next step is finding a counsellor who fits.

Before counselling, I served in the Canadian Armed Forces infantry, ran a plumbing business, and spent eight years in pastoral ministry, including six leading The Mustard Seed Street Church in Victoria. Those worlds run on plain talk and real problems. That's how I work in the therapy room.

Veterans, tradespeople, leaders, and clients from faith communities often find their way to my practice because the language and culture are familiar to me. The practice is open to any adult who needs it.
 I can help you with
  • Anxiety
  • Depression and mood
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Grief and loss
  • Stress and burnout
  • Intrusive thoughts and rumination
  • Family-of-origin patterns
  • Faith, meaning, and existential questions

What clients tend to gain from working together
  • The capacity to feel hard things without being run by them
  • A clearer sense of what actually matters to you, and how to live closer to it
  • Practical tools for anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and chronic stress
  • A way to make sense of inherited family patterns
  • Space to integrate faith and clinical work, if that fits your story

How I work
My primary clinical approach is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, or ACT.

The short version: ACT is an evolution from CBT called "Third Wave CBT. ACT helps you build the capacity to feel difficult thoughts and emotions while taking action toward what matters to you. ACT has strong research support for anxiety, depression, trauma, and chronic stress.

I draw on several other approaches as the work calls for them

Mindfulness-based work: noticing what's happening internally without immediately reacting
Narrative therapy: examining the stories you've been handed about who you are, and which ones still serve you
Solution-focused brief therapy: useful when there's a specific stuck point and we need to find what's already working
Family systems thinking: making sense of patterns that started long before you did
Pastoral counselling: available for clients who want their faith life integrated rather than left at the door
 On faith

If faith, doubt, or questions of meaning are part of your story, you can bring those in. I take spiritual life seriously without pushing you in any direction. I don't specialize in leaving faith, and I don't preach to clients exploring it.
