As a marriage/relationship and family counsellor, the cornerstone of my practice is grounded in the belief that people do all types of things to protect themselves and preserve their dignity. Sometimes their responses are misunderstood and/or seen as negative. My goal is to explore these to determine the meaning behind the things people are doing in
their relationships with others. From my experience, once individuals, couples, or families begin to understand that their responses are signs of mental wellness, not metal deficit, they begin to feel better. From this perspective we will explore, in great detail, the details of each client’s perspective, responses, and resistance. We will then work to create new more helpful ways to communicate and be in relationship with others. Clients are invited to attend individually or with their partner or family members. Together we will collaborate on goals and strategies for therapy. I work with individuals, couples, and families. I have specialized training in working with issues of violence. I work with perpetrators and victims of violence.

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC). I have a Masters Degree in Counselling from City University. In addition, I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree, a Certificate in Child Abuse Prevention, and a Diploma in Systemic Family Therapy. I believe in ongoing education. I am currently a student in the Response Based Practice Certificate program. I have also recently completed Narrative Therapy Training Level 1, attended trainings on Trauma-Informed Practice, Solution-Focused Therapy, and workshops on anxiety. I have certification in suicide intervention (ASIST).  I practice from a number of therapeutic modalities including Response-Based Practice, Narrative Therapy, Systemic Family Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy.

I grew up in the small town of Clearwater, BC, and have lived in Kamloops for over 20 years. I live with my partner and our two children. My goal is to provide a welcoming, collaborative, individualized experience for counselling. Sessions are typically 60 minutes. However, the first session is usually 75 minutes at no extra charge. This allows for some additional time for me to get to know you and explore the context of your life and concerns. I believe that counselling is a highly personal decision that is most successful when clients feel a rapport with their counsellor. Therefore, I welcome you to call and ask me questions and/or set up a time to come and visit my counselling space.
I am a service provider and do direct billing with First Nations Health Authority (crisis counselling and IRS) and approved Crime Victim Assistance claims. I also work with a number of EAP/EFAP providers including Homewood Health and Lifeworks. As a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC# 13848) I can provide a receipt with my registration number for most extended health plans. I also do phone or Skype sessions at a client’s request.

I can be reached by phone/text at 250-819-1902 or by email at sritchie@rbpinterior.com.
