There are many types of grief. Some from the death of a loved one, the loss of a relationship or job. Even moving can cause a sense of loss. And everyone grieves in their own time and manner. We have all experienced loss in our lives, whether we lose a pet as a child or a parent, spouse or someone close to us. Loss is part of being human and with loss comes grief. Many physicians and other professionals minimize the impact of loss and grief but it is one of the most important human emotions and must be allowed to exist for as long as necessary. The 5 stages of depression come into play with grief and loss: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance. When grief becomes depression, additional support is necessary. My work with grief and loss normalizes the impact of this powerful emotion and supports the person who struggles with this most human of feelings.
