Current Initiatives
The Riverside County Department of Mental Health is the largest mental health awareness and treatment program in the county.5 The department�s three main programs, Substance Abuse Services, Mental Health Services, and Public Guardian�s Office, work together to provide culturally sensitive services to individuals suffering from psychological disorders and mental illness.
The Department�s Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) of 2005 was designed to increase funding for mental health services in the county by implementing a 1% tax on residents who have a personal income over $1 million. Since its implementation, the quality and variety of mental health services available in La Quinta and the rest of Riverside County has improved consistently.
