One thing that seems to be coming up in the news a lot is mental health. Whether it's a new mental health discovery, or it's something that has occurred that causes us to talk about the mental health care system in our country, there are a lot of questions out there about the mental health system and what can and/or should be done about it. Food provides us nutrition and satiates our hunger. As the primary energy source, the very act of consuming our food enables us to function and go about our daily regimen. The human body is no short of a marvel when it comes to converting the food we eat into the energy that we essentially require to survive.Metabolism is the process the human body has devised to break food into chemical compounds that extract the necessary nutrients that serve as the energy source the body harnesses to perform its various functions.

These disorders are very dangerous, and must be taken seriously and treated by a professional. As a parent, it can be difficult to know what to do. You want more than anything to help your child, even while you and your family struggle with conflicting emotions, including fear that your child will seriously harm herself, or even die.

It’s summer, time for swimsuit season, sleeveless tops and cool, comfortable clothing. At least it is where I live, in hot and humid Houston, Tx. How is your body image in summer months? We are all bombarded by media messages day after day, but it can certainly increase in the summer months when we’re likely to be more exposed and more self-conscious of our bodies.

Apart from stress and known eating disorders, addiction to food has also been a topic of major studies. The Rudd Report (2007)4 states that these studies have revealed that there are striking similarities in use and withdrawal patterns of sugar and of classic drugs of abuse. Addiction to food can also be triggered as people move away from other substances like tobacco and alcohol, and there is a possibility that food and classic addictive substances compete for the same brain pathways. Indeed, many food additives can affect the brain in ways similar to drug abuse.

Do you feel hijacked by urges to eat when you’re not hungry, mindless eating that leads to overeating, or cravings that you just don’t understand?
