I try to help my clients find the internal button that will allow them to give up their dependency and have confidence in themselves. If addictions didn't bite up back they wouldn't be a problem. But, they always land us in more trouble than we originally had. If the client is open to 12 step I encourage that. If not, we can work without it. The goal is to minimize shame and maximize self-confidence.
