My approach to anger management is helping clients find freedom from the anger. Many times it is necessary to help clients find the true source of their anger. There are many sources that can drive the anger. Developing new skills to manage the emotions behind the anger is important as well as developing new relationship skills that many times can lessen or prevent the anger from ever developing,

“Where there is anger, there is always pain underneath.” – Eckhart Tolle. Anger can feel like a constant unwanted companion. Oftentimes, anger is really a sort of coping strategy which isn’t serving you well. I’d be happy to help you find the root of your anger while learning better ways of handling interactions. By learning to explain your anger rather than expressing it, you will open the door to solutions instead of arguments. You can benefit with a lighter heart and greatly improved relationships.

Anger can get triggered in situations where you feel disrespected, shamed, rejected, powerless, not heard, not valued, or not safe. My approach for helping clients reduce their anger is to identify past experiences that elicit anger, frustration, fear, shame or other upsetting emotions and negative thoughts now, and then to reprocess those memories with EMDR therapy. I have also helped clients understand why they feel they need to hold on to their anger and then work through the blocks to letting the anger go while still helping them find other ways to feel in control, heard, respected or safe. Note: I do not offer Anger Management classes to meet work or court ordered requirements.

I don’t believe in anger management. Anger shouldn’t be “managed.” I believe it should be expressed wisely. If you struggle with anger issues, I would bet you use your anger in destructive ways. I can help you learn constructive ways to express your anger. Contact me today to receive a free article I’ve written about anger management. Put an end to the destruction and construct healthier relationships with wisely expressed anger.

I work with clients to both understand their angry responses and to improve their behavior. Anger results from our interpretation of situations rather than the actual situation. Anger can prevent people from develping strong connections in relationships. It is difficult to trust a person who frequently responds in an angry manner or whose anger can be out of proportion to the situation. I help clients become less angry so they can improve their current relationships and develop new ones.

Anger, along with guilt, feelings of inadequacy, sexuality, and anxiety, is one of the major issues I work with in individual psychotherapy and marital counseling. My treatment of preference for anger management is primarily psychodynamic; this is because it enables both the patient and myself to identify the underlying issues and what triggers them. Once we have established what the triggers are, we can begin to explore what the underlying psychodynamics are entering new territory where most of the psychotherapy happens.
