I consider myself to be a professional counselor with a pastoral heart. My Christian faith informs all that I do personally and professionally. When working with a person of faith, I incorporate scripture and Christian principles as I seek to address whatever brings the client in for therapy. My approach is not solely from this perspective as I also employ evidence based professional counseling practice. However, faith is an enormous strength that clients can use to overcome problems and improve all aspects of their lives.

The God of the universe made us. Jesus died for us while we were His enemies. This implies we have immense value and God cares deeply for us. I use these principles as the foundation for my approach in working with people. I also utilize Biblical principles to help understand people. I utilize prayer and scripture passages as requested and appropriate. God can change us. The Holy Spirit is real. And we are responsible for what we choose to do in response to God loving us.

I am a Christian first and foremost in life. God is my most important priority. Did you know that Jesus is listed as a counselor in the Bible? God called me to this field so He loves the helping professions. Now He is the greatest Helper of all. I certainly know that most people do not come to me for Christian counseling but when people are of the same faith, I think they feel a certain level of comfort with someone who shares their faith. I am in business and I do not share anything about God with someone that does not want to hear about faith. It is my prayer that God's wisdom and love is manifested in each session even if Christian counseling never comes up.

My motto is, "You can have Jesus and a therapist"! I think it is important for people to know that some things require more than prayer. God placed people here with special skills to be able to help others during trying times. If you are strong in your faith, feel like you've lost your faith, or not sure what faith is, together we can figure it out.

Our goal is that each client would have their unique needs met to achieve their personal goals. To that end, we offer faith-based or Christian counseling for those clients who desire it. We look to the client to let us know if they want to incorporate their faith into sessions, and to what extent. We do not assume that every client wants to address spirituality in his or her sessions, and during the first session we work with the client to create a plan to best meet his or her specific needs. Respect is a core value at GROW, and regardless of the client’s politics, worldview, or faith, we seek to meet them where they are and provide resources that will help them reach their individual goals.
