I was raised Episcopalian, was confirmed by Bishop Pike, and received my "God and Country" Badge as a Boy Scout (after a year of study and service). That being said, I have a profound respect for a broad variety of spiritual practices and beliefs to which clients may adhere. I find that clients' spiritual resources can add tremendously important dimensions to both the individual and interpersonal work they may do. I like to make use of those resources along with counseling, because they can be a source of strength, support, guidance, and perspective as clients work their way through and beyond their personal impasses, areas of sin, weaknesses, fallibilities and ego investments.

In the gospel of Matthew, Jesus states “If your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light.” This simple statement guides my approach to counseling. The light exists, and we sometimes need help to improve the soundness of our mental and emotional “eyes” to let more light into our personal awareness and influence our feelings, thoughts and behavior.
