Anger is usually caused by shoulds or demands that you impose upon others. You argue with what is, demanding that what you want is what should be. Anger is truly one of the hardest emotions to shift out of when you're really feeling it strongly. In working with you on your anger, I will start by just listening and trying to understand why you're feeling hurt, betrayed, abandoned, abused, neglected, or deprived in some fashion. Then I will teach you to evaluate what is in your control & what isn't, so we can help you to focus upon what is in your control. In addition, I will teach you appropriate ways to express yourself, and to shift out of demandingness, into stating what you prefer

Do you sometimes feel out-of-control? Do you feel as if you anger easily? I can help you experience your emotions without being held hostage to them. I use DBT (dialectical behavior therapy), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness, to teach you how to be present in the moment. Mindfulness teaches you how to be present in your life; When you understand that your thoughts influence your feelings which then influence behavior, you can begin to make positive changes in your life.

Anger Management therapy is a powerful tool for people wanting to understand, explore, and control their anger through channeling healthier alternatives. Much like other emotions, we learn expression of these feelings through what we grew up seeing around us. Anger is particularly challenging because it is viewed as one of the more "acceptable" emotions to feel, however it can also become destructive to us both personally and in our most valued relationships. We will delve into any past experiences that may continue to fuel your anger and work towards self reflection, mindfulness, and awareness of personal triggers to find constructive ways to assertively express difficult emotions.

Anger has many sources, but regardless of the source, I know that it can have devastating effects in our lives, often times that we look back and regret things we did and/or said. Excessive anger takes away our control and power in the moment, and I want to help you regain control of yourself so that you can regain power of your life. I look forward to exploring with you the source of your anger, so that we can begin the healing process, so that you can live a happier life and be in better control of yourself, as well as learning healthy coping skills for de-escalation.

We best manage our anger when we approach it from two angles. The first is to examine and change our behavior. There is always a predictive pattern to an anger escalation. Once we learn this and understand this path, we can engage it differently and have an improved outcome. Secondly, for longer term relief, we need to examine how we think and how we can begin to see life differently and get our needs met in healthier ways. Healthy anger is simply the slight boost of energy we feel when we engage something that is not right or is unfair (at least to us!). Learning how to deal with the thoughts and feelings around this will give us more tools and better outcomes.
