Jacksonville is a rapidly growing metropolitan city located in the northeastern part of the state of Florida. The city is one of the hottest holiday destinations in the entire state. Its proximity to some of Florida's most famous attractions like Disneyworld and the Kennedy Space Center make it a draw for family vacations. It's also home to numerous museums, miles of beaches, an amazing symphony orchestra, and the largest urban park system in the US.1 Jacksonville also sports a flourishing cultural scene and many annual special events such as the Jacksonville Jazz Festival and the World of Nations celebration. Because of Jacksonville's optimal location, its temperate weather, relatively low cost of living, and business-friendly administration, the city has become a hotspot for business expansions. The population of the city is ethnically, culturally, and religiously diverse and many languages such as Spanish and Tagalog are spoken throughout the larger metropolitan area.

Marriage and Couples Mental Health in Jacksonville

Although the majority of households in Jacksonville are headed by a married couple, nearly 37% of citizens live with someone who is not related to them.2 Since Jacksonville has a highly diverse population,3 services for families in need of behavioral health counseling must be adaptable to and respectful of each population's unique needs.

The large number of veterans in the Jacksonville area requires unique support services, as many soldiers returning from service have mental health needs. The city of Jacksonville recognizes the importance of providing programs and services to its veterans. The city will help veterans identify any entitlement benefits that are due to them. Employment services and social services are available as well. The city also actively engages in advocacy and promotion of issues important to members of the armed forces and their families. The project brings various agencies together to provide essential services, including information about adoptions, training and resources for foster parents, in-home programs to strengthen families, and educational programs that seek to help foster care youth transition into adulthood. The lead agency of the project is Family Support Services of North Florida. To inquire about these programs, call 904-421-5800.5
