Anxiety & Stress Anxiety and Stress are a major part of our society today. Most people we know are anxious and stressed out. I am sure you are feeling it too. When working with my clients, I walk them through the steps below: * Identifying ways to relax or calm the body * Mindfulness Practices * Identify how you thoughts effect your feelings * Learn skills to reframe your thoughts and decrease the anxious thoughts * Gain control of anxious activities that contribute to anxious behavior * Develop a self-care plan So, when the clients have completed therapy they are walking away with a tool kit to help them manage stress and anxiety moving forward.

To help clients relieve anxiety and stress, I often incorporate therapeutic techniques that I see would be most effective for each client, including cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR and other interventions. Overall, I help my clients achieve higher self-esteem, overall wellness and balance, and increased happiness personally and professionally. I very much enjoy the work that I do and find it to be extremely rewarding.

Anxiety is miserable but it's also one of the easier things to treat in therapy. Whether you are stressed out and worried about "everything" or if your anxiety has a compulsive side to it I can help. I enjoy working with anxious people because there is a lot of energy that can get channeled towards fast improvement. I initially approach anxiety work from a cognitive side as to how the thought processes generate the anxiety. Understanding the emotions underneath the anxiety is an important part of the process as well. I work with generalized anxiety (worriers), OCD, social anxiety, and specific anxieties. Believe it or not - anxiety work can actually be fun and there's often a lot of laughs.

The first step in overcoming Anxiety is understanding how it impacts you on a daily basis. I will help you recognize your earliest warning signs that you are becoming anxious or stressed and teach you positive coping skills you can use to manage those feelings before they become overwhelming. If you struggle with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Social Anxiety, Panic Attacks, or Specific Phobias, I will use CBT & Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) techniques to help you learn how to face and conquer the very things that are causing that Anxiety. You can live a life where you can effectively manage your thoughts and feelings instead of feeling like they control you.

Anxiety, like physical pain, is a signal that there may be reason for concern. This is useful because if there is some potential danger, you will be alert and able to avoid it or challenge it. However, the anxiety signal can often be a false alarm. For many people, an alarm is treated no differently than a clear and obvious threat rather than as a warning that there may or may not be reason for concern. That is how I view anxiety disorders: when the response to a warning is always to treat it as a real danger rather than as a signal to be alert. In my view, the treatment of anxiety is a process of learning to distinguish between a real and false alarm and how to respond appropriately.

We all experience anxiety and stress. Counseling is indicated if anxiety or stress begins to affect your thinking, relationships, or every day living in a negative way. Many times mood swings, and excessive worry are symptoms that indicate a need for counseling. The number one rule about anxiety and stress is to be able to tell someone who can be a stable influence in helping you express your worry and support in you in thinking of and trying positive solutions. If you continue to come back to the same thoughts or situations that are causing stress or anxiety without relief you may need professional help. Examples may include a difficult job situation, parenting or hurting relationship.
