Hailey is passionate about working with children who are having challenges or going through difficult family changes. She has experience working with children with behavioural difficulties as well as children with many mental health issues such as anxiety, ADHD, and conduct disorder. Hailey uses fun, interactive strategies to engage children, such as toys, books, and worksheets. Hailey also utilizes behavioural analysis techniques, such as behaviour charts and reward systems.

While I do not work with children under the age of 12, we have many therapists on our team who work with children aged 6-11. I work with each child at their own pace, using creative, playful and meaningful strategies to understand and address their emotional and behavioural needs. If appropriate or necessary, I might also incorporate parents/guardians into the therapeutic work. I can also suggest resources and strategies alongside the individual work with the child to assist parents in supporting the child's therapeutic process and personal growth.

Children will receive help in navigating challenging life experiences, such as divorce, trauma, or loss, and develop healthy ways to process and manage their feelings. I love working with children!! Children are wired to learn. Often, though, they struggle to communicate their needs, wants and wishes with others in a proper way. Likewise, adults struggle in the same way and/or feel inadequate in coaching their children. Broken communication lines can cause major side effects. This is where I come in. I'm able to connect with most children quit rapidly. I find that whenever children feel understood, they quickly establish a safe bond and share their stories with me. Once this bond is built, most children can't wait to come back to see me for more life coaching/counselling. Parents are always surprised by this.

Here at JP&A we offer counselling approaches for children, drawing upon art and play therapy modalities to assist children with the challenges they may be facing. We also work with parents to coach steps and strategies you can use at home to assist your child with recovery, coping and enhancing their level of functioning (e.g. social, spiritual, intellectual, emotional etc.)

My approach when working with children under 12 years old is to ensure that they are provided with a positive and safe experience of therapy. I prefer to tailor therapy to their developmental stage by creating a fun environment that may involve play, art, and activities during sessions. Discussions about their interests, skills, and special talents and abilities are at the forefront of our therapeutic conversations to help build confidence and feelings of positivity. My background in relational therapy may invite parents or siblings into sessions as well. I work with young children identified as having learning difficulties, (ADD), (ADHD), oppositional defiant disorder, or antisocial personality disorder. Each child is unique, and presents different needs. My initial focus is on finding the underlying issues contributing to their difficulties. Once these have been identified, I create a plan for resolving the issues of concern. Success is achieved when a child, with appropriate training, is able to adopt strategies for functioning more independently, maintaining more sustained focus and regulating their emotions. As counter-productive patterns are replaced over time, a child will develop new norms in behaviour and outlook.
