Hailey is passionate about working with children who are having challenges or going through difficult family changes. She has experience working with children with behavioural difficulties as well as children with many mental health issues such as anxiety, ADHD, and conduct disorder. Hailey uses fun, interactive strategies to engage children, such as toys, books, and worksheets. Hailey also utilizes behavioural analysis techniques, such as behaviour charts and reward systems.

I work with young children identified as having learning difficulties, (ADD), (ADHD), oppositional defiant disorder, or antisocial personality disorder. Each child is unique, and presents different needs. My initial focus is on finding the underlying issues contributing to their difficulties. Once these have been identified, I create a plan for resolving the issues of concern. Success is achieved when a child, with appropriate training, is able to adopt strategies for functioning more independently, maintaining more sustained focus and regulating their emotions. As counter-productive patterns are replaced over time, a child will develop new norms in behaviour and outlook.

Here at JP&A we offer counselling approaches for children, drawing upon art and play therapy modalities to assist children with the challenges they may be facing. We also work with parents to coach steps and strategies you can use at home to assist your child with recovery, coping and enhancing their level of functioning (e.g. social, spiritual, intellectual, emotional etc.)

Our therapists will provide a safe and supportive space for children to express their thoughts and emotions, develop coping skills, and build resilience. Children will receive help in navigating challenging life experiences, such as divorce, trauma, or loss, and develop healthy ways to process and manage their feelings. It can also address behavioral issues, social skills development, and academic challenges. Additionally, this can help support parents in understanding their child's needs and provide strategies to enhance their relationship and communication.

I work with each child at their own pace, using creative, playful and meaningful strategies to understand and address their emotional and behavioural needs. If appropriate or necessary, I might also incorporate parents/guardians into the therapeutic work. I can also suggest resources and strategies alongside the individual work with the child to assist parents in supporting the child's therapeutic process and personal growth.

Together we look at areas of life that are challenging for them and identify the factors that are contributing to the difficulties they are experiencing. We then work on managing those areas more effectively by developing positive coping strategies and emotions management skills.
