Like married couples, there are times when families get stuck. There may need to be an intervention with a loved one who is out of control in some way, or just a need to have a safe place with a professional to be sure family members are heard and a consensus can be reached in regard to a difficult situation. When people can express their feelings and ideas, it helps everyone feel like a valued member of the family. I provide family therapy in Gilbert, AZ. Due to the differences in personalities and communication styles, as well as the situational issues that arise throughout life, families can often experience conflict and chaos. My approach to family counseling is to increase and improve communication among all family members. My goal is to increase understanding among family members, as well as everyone’s ability to respect the uniqueness and value of each family member. I engage the family in communication activities and provide homework for between sessions. I assist families in processing through difficult events that may be causing tension and work to strengthen and improve relational functioning

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy within the family context. I believe our thoughts leads to our feelings, thus influencing our behavior patterns/communication towards other family members. I also utilize Dialectical Behavior Therapy given it's large emphasis on validating multiple feelings and experiences at a time, which is important to make space for given the variety of people making up the family unit.
