Family Counseling - Through family systems counseling we will determine what is working within your family and draw from strengths to change what is not working. We will come up with new ideas for communication, schedules and roles within the family. It is also important to get to the root of expectations and what is and is not an acceptable component of the family relationships you seek. Individual issues such as depression and anxiety can affect the health of your family. Addressing these issues individually can help the family unit grow and thrive. Dr. Keller utilizes family therapy when appropriate. In working with children and teens, dysfunctional family dynamics are a major contributing factor in the development of symptoms of anxiety, depression,substance abuse, and academic underachievment. Improving empathic communication within the family system can play an important role in the treatment of a variety of psychological conditions. Dr. Keller attemts to utilize the family as a support system to help patients recover from emotionally painfull experiences. Family therapy is often used as an adjunct to individual therapy. Dr. Keller may refer to another therapist for family therapy while he is treating an individual patient.

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy within the family context. I believe our thoughts leads to our feelings, thus influencing our behavior patterns/communication towards other family members. I also utilize Dialectical Behavior Therapy given it's large emphasis on validating multiple feelings and experiences at a time, which is important to make space for given the variety of people making up the family unit.
