One of the most beautiful historical landmarks in Modesto is the McHenry Mansion. Robert McHenry, a local rancher and banker, built the house by hand. The Italianate Victorian was built in 1882-83 in an area east of downtown that once contained many other grand houses. Today the McHenry Mansion is open for tours. Tours are free and tour guides are available. Across the street from the mansion is the McHenry Museum which features information about Modesto's history. Another landmark steeped in the town's history is the State Theatre of Modesto. Originally opened in 1934, the building is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The theatre was built as a movie house but over the years has been converted to a concert hall and community arts center.1

Trainings of school personnel on a variety of issues from bullying to health promotion have been undertaken at hundreds of California schools.5 By offering these programs and services, California has taken positive steps toward improving the mental health of its child and adult residents.
