Mental Health in Pacific Palisades
Pacific Palisades is a generally affluent neighborhood in Los Angeles. With greater income comes greater access to quality mental health care. However, even though most residents of the city live comfortably, they still suffer from many common mental health issues such as anxiety, depression and drug and alcohol abuse. As a whole, over 15 percent of Los Angeles County residents have used an illegal drug in the last year. Nearly 9 percent of the county's residents have a substance abuse disorder.2 While the rates for these mental health problems are lower in Pacific Palisades, those who suffer from these issues still need access to appropriate mental health programs and services.
Mental Health America is a nationwide non-profit organization that seeks to improve the functioning of mentally ill residents, as well as advocate on their behalf in their local communities. The Los Angeles chapter of MHA works to inform elected officials throughout Los Angeles County about pressing issues regarding the mental health of area residents. MHA works to protect the rights of the mentally ill as it pertains to housing, education and employment.
