This is the fifth largest city in Colorado with approximately 130,000 residents in the city limits, at about 270,000 in the metropolitan area. The culture here is centered on the students at Colorado State University1. The demographic is largely driven by the college-aged students, which lends the city to a thriving local music circuit. There are also several home breweries located in Fort Collins—new Belgium Brewing Company, and Odell Brewing Company. New Belgium is the largest of the four breweries and distributes as far east a Mississippi and west to California.

Current Initiatives

Although social attitudes are changing, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people have an uphill challenge when it comes to being respected in society, and sometimes finding community can be difficult. There's good news for LGBT people in Northern Colorado. The Center, and LGBT nonprofit, offers lots of community events and support groups for those coming into their own sexuality or gender identity.5
