I am a Christian. In addition to being a psychotherapist, I have a Master of Divinity Degree and worked as a hospice chaplain for 16 years at the time I am writing this. I was able to bring relief to individuals from different faith and religious backgrounds. Working for a hospice, one does not always know beforehand to whom one will have the opportunity to comfort and bring relief. Some days, I was called to provide comfort to a Christian; other days, it was to a Muslim, Jewish person, or a Hindu. The list goes on, but the truth is that, despite being a Christian, I feel comfortable working with most people who will give me the opportunity to enter their world, so that I can help.

I believe that it is very important to address a person religious belief or lack of belief in counseling. How we relate to the world and what it means to have or not have a God has a very important role on how people approach their own problems. Identifying whether spirituality has a role on your life is essential.

While most Christian Counselors pride themselves on how many Scriptural passages they can recite and how many links they can make from the Bible to psychological disorders, the Christian-centric work of Grey Matters International, Inc.is grounded in one principle: truth. Christian Counseling uses a variety of therapeutic interventions to help clients resolve or heal from issues. Yet at the core of Christian counseling is the belief of a triune God as healer, who has given restoration through grace and mercy. With this understanding for clients who indicate their need to connect their presenting issues spirituality, I work with exploring how the Christian belief is beneficial to therapeutic outcomes. The Biblical message of hope, faith, love, forgiveness ,redemption, and salvation are "languaged" in therapy in achieving clients goals. Tenets of the Christian faith such as prayer and Biblical usages are incorporated in sessions.

In biblically based counseling, I integrate psychological insight with the truth and hope found in Scripture, offering clients a faith-affirming space to explore their struggles and seek healing. My approach is grounded in compassion, grace, and a deep respect for each person’s relationship with God. I help clients find clarity and peace by applying biblical principles to life’s challenges—whether related to relationships, purpose, identity, or emotional pain—while encouraging spiritual growth, prayer, and alignment with God’s will in their healing journey.

Is a Christian Counseling perspective important to you in therapy? As an experienced Christian Counselor and ordained pastor, over the last 15 years I’ve been blessed to help hundreds of men find hope and healing using both psychological and Biblical principles. I believe that Christ is the ultimate source of hope and healing in this life. But I also believe that he’s given us the gift of rational minds, able to discern scientific and psychological truths built into the fabric of His amazing creation. My approach is grounded firmly in Scripture, but I don’t use Scripture as a weapon. You don’t need more guilt, but rather, a reminder of God’s promises and a compassionate guide to support you.

Faith does not shield us from life’s challenges. Even as Christians, we may face seasons of emotional struggle, illness, grief, or relationship pain. My goal in Christian counseling is to walk with you through these difficulties in a way that strengthens your faith and reminds you of the hope and purpose God has for your life. While following Christ in today’s world can feel overwhelming at times, I believe that God always provides a path forward. Together, we can seek healing, peace, and restoration through both sound therapeutic practice and the sustaining truth of God’s Word.

Counseling is addressing spiritual issues of life and is based on the reality that we are a spirit, have a soul, and live in a body. It is an integration of psychological and spiritual realities that affect the way we live and is based on the existence of God, who has our best interest in mind and who is intimately involved with our human affairs. Clients will be able to walk through their own path to healing and gain insight into their life with the help of a loving God. Believers from different denominations and of the Jewish faith will find spiritual guidance and help.

It also does not only mean that our counselors are Christian, although they are. What it does mean is that we integrate biblical principles with psychological truth. It means we will not give counsel that violates scriptural truth. Jesus said ,"you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free."
