Mental Health in Brandon

The Drug Abuse Comprehensive Coordinating Office (DACCO) is one of the largest community based providers of substance abuse rehabilitation services in the state of Florida, and their Brandon chapter provides prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation services for adults and adolescents.2 The Brandon office also handles assessments. DACCO strives to educate the community on the dangers of substance use, prescription medication abuse, the risk of addiction, and the mental and physical toll these behaviors can take on individuals and their community alike. For more information about DACCO and their services, call (813) 384-4000.

While those suffering from a mental illness face many challenges themselves, their caregivers, family members, and loved ones can also be affected. In these cases, a support group can help provide solidarity and encouragement in a non-judgmental, understanding atmosphere. The National Alliance on Mental Illness holds a family support group for caregivers, family, and friends of those suffering from mental illness.3  The group meets at the First United Methodist Church on the third Thursday of each month. To find out more about the family support group, call (813) 273-8104. If you are currently experiencing a crisis, call (813) 272-2958.
