Couples therapy is one of my specialties. I utilize the evidence based therapy "Emotionally Focused Therapy" (EFT). The emphasis of this therapy is for a couple to learn how to manage conflict, be supportive of one another's dreams and goals, and to feel connected. The idea of connection is one which couples identify with and immediately endorse as a mutual goal. While I may point out individual areas for improvement, I am always on the side of the couple, not one individual over the other. I want to see the couple succeed. Having a partner in life is meant to be a joyful, rewarding journey.

Working with couples is extremely specialized and should only be done with a trained clinician. Please ask the right questions to ensure you are in good hands with someone who knows how to guide you. The client is the relationship - not the individuals! So an individual therapist is not the way to go here. At KML, we have a trained PSYPACT psychologist who is licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), so she can work in any PSYPACT state. This work should focus on what the couple wants for their relationship (sometimes the goal is uncoupling kindly), guiding the couple in healthy growth of the relationship, and all without shame! We are passionate about and skilled with helping couples to repair and strengthen their relationship by utilizing techniques from evidence-based practices such as Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy and the Gottman Method. These techniques help get to the heart of the matter to increase relationship satisfaction and heal emotional injuries that may have occurred throughout the relationship or as a result of previous trauma. Individual therapy for each partner is also recommended as best practice for helping each person to work through their personal traumas.

Couples conflict ususally results from each person not dealing with his/her own damaged emotions. I work with each person bringing healing to his/her soul (mind and emotions). Once a good degree of healing has taken place, the couple is better able to understand each other and communicate on a healthy level. Also, I offer temperament analysis which is called Creation Therapy. This enable me to share with you the unique creation genetically coded into you at the time of your conception. CT identifies your strengths and your weaknesses. CT identifies your needs and how to get them met. Couples by coming to understand each other's temperament are better able to relate. What are the most common couples' issues? If you are thinking "communication, conflict, sex, money, child rearing" you are correct.
