We look at anger as a secondary emotion. It is very easy to characterize a person as "angry" and not explore where the reaction or response truly stems from. Our approach is to provide healing at the root. We explore what other emotions may be operating, so that we can address what has really provoked a negative response. We also try to find ways to replace the thoughts that evoke an angered response with something that helps our clients feel more in control.

I use a pyscho educational approach with working with anger management. In that I teach about anger being a secondary emotion that often protects hurt and fear. We go through the anger cycle and ways to change that cycle. The goal is help clients move from destructive behaviors to constructive communication and behaviors. A typical anger management process takes four to six sessions.

Our focus on anger management is to identify and address the underlying thoughts and beliefs that trigger anger through cognitive restructuring. We encourage relaxation techniques and strategies to manage anger including deep breathing and identify personal triggers which help change thoughts patterns and responses to anger-inducing situations.  We utilize trigger identification,relaxation techniques and problem solving skills by encouraging clients to record their anger triggers and emotions,
