Hinsdale, IL, a picturesque city just 21 miles away from downtown Chicago, seems to have been keeping itself under wraps. But walk the streets and see what others have begun to discover: this is a great place for families. Parents and children alike can find something they will enjoy at the Hinsdale Public Library. With 30,000 square feet of materials, there is something for everyone.1 Parents looking for a school system with proven results need look no further. Do not be concerned that your teen might not graduate as Hinsdale, IL has some of the highest graduation rates in the nation. In Hinsdale, the number of people with a Bachelor's Degree or higher is more than twice the national average. Success can't be measured purely by averages and percentages, though. Sometimes the student needs a little extra time and follow through, the kind that a private school provides. Hinsdale has several private schools, including many parochial institutions like the Grace Episcopal School.

Mental Health in Hinsdale

Veterans who return home from service often face many mental health challenges as they try to reintegrate back to normal daily life. Depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder are just a few problems they often have to overcome.2 The Illinois Warrior Assistance Program offers veterans and their families a variety of resources and services to ensure timely care for mental illnesses. The organization coordinates programs to improve family functioning upon the return of a service member. Support groups for substance abuse are available as well. A confidential support hotline is also offered for individuals who are in the midst of a mental health crisis. That number can be reached at 866-554-4927.3

Coping with grief and loss is easier if one has a supportive environment in which to share their feelings. Children aged 4-18 can get the emotional support they need at Buddy's Place. The family-based program facilitates closeness and healing through creative and goal-oriented activities. Groups are provided at no cost. Call 708-995-3750 for additional details.4 A loved one's alcohol addiction can also cause individuals to seek out support and assistance. Al-Anon Northern Illinois is dedicated to providing a system of support for friends and family who constantly worry about a loved one whose drinking is out-of-control. Their confidential groups meet often throughout the Hinsdale area.5

Current Education
