I approach depression with empathy and curiosity, recognizing it not as weakness, but as a signal that something deep within is asking for care. Depression can feel like disconnection—from yourself, others, and the life you once knew. In our work together, we’ll gently explore what lies beneath the heaviness, honoring your pace and your pain. Healing begins when you feel safe enough to be seen. You don’t have to carry the weight alone anymore.

My approach will vary depending on the severity of the depression. The first importance is stability of well being. From there I will work on thoughts, feelings, and behaviors working towards short terms goals. Goals will include small behavior changes that will help to be building blocks and also cognitive work on realistic truths. Often things like sleep, nutrition, and exercise are also evaluated and improved in the process as ways to counter depression.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has been identified as the treatment of choice for depression. Whether you are on medication or not, CBT strategies can offer relief from the heavy weight of depressive symptoms. Kari's clients gain an understanding of what makes someone vulnerable to depression, how to increase motivation, energy, and positive mood. They will learn how to react to difficult situations with control and composure and better combat depressive tendencies in the future. Because teens display depression differently than adults, parents are often unsure about their son/daughter. Kari will provide an assessment and if necessary, a plan for effective treatment.

I assist individuals suffering from depression find hope, connection, and relief by collaborating with them through their journey. When necessary and appropriate, I will collaborate with the individual's other health care providers to ensure the greatest level of care and progress. Those suffering with depression have difficulty finding hope, energy, and worth - I assist this individual in each aspect of this experience. I approach them with warmth, understanding, hope, and empathy.
