As an experienced child therapist and mother of four, I offer a compassionate and gentle presence for children as they process their experiences, through talk, creative activities and play. I work collaboratively with parents and guardians, and help them structure the child's environment to best meet their child's needs, meeting with school, agency and daycare staff as necessary. Children attend therapy sessions individually, or with one or more family members, depending on age and circumstance. Parents or guardians are invited to attend sessions or parts of sessions, depending on what would be most helpful for the child.

Children are more sensitive than we realize. They are learning about themselves and the world in which they live every day. They, however, are most vulnerable to mixed messages and faulty assumptions. They need to be led and guided so they can learn to be productive, healthy, happy individuals. Throughout the years, using techniques, skill and personal experience to provide a safe and open environment, I've seen children of all ages blossom and grow.

Children often show us they are troubled and have an unmet need by exhibiting behaviours that their adults experience as difficult, stressful, and sometimes very confusing. I work with kids using play and expressive arts to connect with them in a therapeutic space that is calming, fun, and a safe place to eventually talk about tricky things in their lives. I work from an attachment-focused lens. Therapy also involves some work with caregivers too--both together with the child in the therapy room, and separately. I share with parents the Circle of Security parenting model, which fosters security, connection, and delight in the child.

I integrated art and play therapy in doing therapy with young kids. I based on Circle-of-Security in assisting my parental client in communicating with their kids through artwork and games. External misbehaviors are the way for young kids to signal their parents about their internal insecurity. Helping my parental clients to look through the hidden message of the misbehaviors is the way to restore the secure emotional base for the growth and development of their kids.

The Healing Project understands when it comes to helping younger children it's not always easy for them to open up and be vulnerable. In hopes to make sessions easier for the younger individuals creative exercises such as journaling, art therapy, or music will be implemented during sessions. The Healing Project understands and validates the process for younger children seeking counseling.
