In couples counselling, we focus on helping partners improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen their emotional connection. We use a combination of the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to guide couples in understanding each other’s needs and developing healthier patterns of interaction. Couples will develop practical tools for enhancing intimacy, rebuilding trust, and fostering a deeper sense of understanding and connection within their relationship.

Couple therapy is a broad term for those who wish to address relationship concerns or would like assistance in navigating their relationship. Presenting topics may include breaches of trust, infidelity, (co)parenting, sex and intimacy, separation, exploration of relationship structure or general conflict and arguments. Often times, at nobody’s fault, couples may get caught in patterns of interaction that bring a lot of pain to the relationship. I will assist you in identifying these harmful interactions and work towards breaking that cycle with new ways of relating to each other. Couples therapy and counselling aim to create a compassionate and dedicated space where partners can explore negative dynamics that are hindering their relationship. From a humanistic perspective, the goal is to focus on understanding each partner’s unique experiences and feelings and how these show up in our relationships with others. When we acknowledge and begin to address key issues in the relationship, such as conflict, loss of intimacy or a diminished connection the goal is to help guide couples through a rediscovery of each other, one that works to foster empathy, encourage open dialogue, and create moments of reconnection and reconciliation. Communication amongst couples is commonly poor when a climate of fear and mistrust is perpetuated through criticism, placating, blame, and scapegoating. Under these circumstances the communication can become highly reactive, attacking, and critical. This leads over time to withdrawal, loss of hope, and marital dissolution. My main approach to counselling couples is to help improve communication and identify issues and resolve problems that hinder open honest communication. Sometimes simply by changing the words used from "you" to "I" messages, couples can drastically improve their communication and thereby start to mend the relationship where they had previously been building walls.
