In couples counselling, I emphasize the unique dynamics and challenges that arise within romantic partnerships, whether married or not. My approach is centered on facilitating open dialogue, deepening understanding, and fostering mutual respect and empathy between partners. By focusing on the specific dynamics of the couple's relationship, rather than broader family dynamics or legal aspects of marriage, clients can benefit from gaining insight into their individual needs, communication patterns, and relational strengths. Family Systems theory is primarily focused on three areas. These are individuals, couples, and families (including children). Couples therapy focuses exclusively on the couple's dyad. This connection is affected by many factors: Past childhood experiences of family life, current parenting and grandparenting, blended families after a divorce, intimacy, sexuality, employment stress, financial obligations, and supporting your parents even when you are an adult. This list, though not exhaustive, points to the complexity of couplehood. In couples therapy, I support partners in improving communication, rebuilding connection, and understanding relational patterns that contribute to conflict or distance. With this method, clients will be encouraged to develop a firm foundation using love maps, create trust and commitment and learn to navigate conflict in an effective, respectful manner as well as repair breaches and eliminate destructive habits in their relationship.
