Psychotherapy provides a confidential space for individuals to navigate a spectrum of challenges, from everyday stressors to complex issues. Therapists offer tools such as cognitive restructuring and mindfulness to manage daily stress effectively. For more significant problems like trauma or depression, psychotherapy provides structured support, helping clients explore underlying issues and develop coping strategies. Regardless of the scale, therapy offers insight, validation, and empowerment, fostering resilience and facilitating positive change in individuals' lives.

Many people have ideas about how therapy should look or feel based on what they have seen in movies or tv, and some of those ideas can be scary or intimidating. Therapy should be a safe space where you feel comfortable sharing and exploring your thoughts, feelings, and experiences with someone who offers you empathy, authenticity, and acceptance. I believe that clients are the experts in their lives and will work collaboratively with you to explore the stories you hold about yourself and the world around you to find meaning, facilitate change, and highlight your strengths and successes. In my approach to psychotherapy, I prioritize creating a safe and empathetic space where clients feel heard, understood, and supported on their journey toward healing and personal growth. Drawing from a range of therapeutic modalities such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness techniques, I tailor the therapeutic process to meet the unique needs and goals of each individual. By fostering self-awareness, exploring patterns of thought and behaviour, and learning effective coping strategies, clients can gain insights, develop resilience, and cultivate positive changes in their lives. Together, we work collaboratively to navigate challenges, address underlying issues, and empower clients to achieve greater emotional well-being and fulfillment.

As a gestalt psychotherapist, who pairs gestalt training with somatic experiencing I can help support you in healing from your trauma. No one in the Niagara Region utilizes the combination of these therapies and applies them to working with couples in crisis. I am sorry to say but popular approaches to healing trauma like CBT will provide only temporary relief at best. If you want to get to the root of your trauma and heal somatic experiencing (SE) is what you need and when supported with the power of relational gestalt therapy you will shift your shit! SE focuses on regulating your nervous system. Gestalt focuses on awareness, contact and authenticity, it will help being relational.

I use several research-based theories for individual counseling CBT, DBT & ACT. These theories provide practical skills that can help you gain a better understanding of yourself. By reframing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, we can reduce emotional suffering. In my work as a mental health nurse, I have had the privilege of working with many people struggling with difficult situations and trauma. My approach is to be present, empathetic, and to understand the clients’ prospective. Relationships take hard work and commitment. Giving each person a place to voice their side of the story and be heard by their partner can often iron out the wrinkles in a relationship & help couples reconnect.

Individuals often come to psychotherapy when the coping strategies they were previously using are no longer helpful, and potentially, they have become problematic or destructive. Together we will explore the areas of your life that are frustrating you or causing you pain, and/or discuss situations or relationships from the past that are still impacting your life today.

As a Registered Psychotherapist I guide clients through a discovery process providing a thorough connection between the psychological underpinnings of emotion and behaviour. Raising awareness of these underlying trends becomes the bedrock of recovery, enabling them to work through the often devastating impact that these repeated negative patterns are having in their lives.

My approach is to work collaboratively with clients using a holistic model of therapy which entails a blending of Eastern and Western modalities. For example, training in meditation, yoga, Tai Chi, proper exercise, a nutritious, science-based diet and maintaining proper sleep hygiene. Also, including talk therapy can then help to reveal core values and issues. Mindfulness training benefits clients in observing clearly thoughts and behaviours. Clients benefit greatly through the use of evidence based interventions by developing the skills needed to evaluate thought patterns and overcome destructive patterns.
